In his speech, Sun Hongbin expressed his heartfelt thanks to Polar Research Institute of China and Department of Science and Technology of Shanxi Province for their long-term care and support to the university. He pointed out that, as one of the first “Double First-Class” universities, Taiyuan University of Technology insists on facing the world's science and technology frontier and facing the high-quality economic development of Shanxi and focuses on the basic and key issues of science and technology innovation, industrial upgrading and major social practice in the field of double carbon, builds a strong discipline construction chain, science and technology innovation chain and talent training chain around the double carbon industry chain. The university has taken a new path of development with the characteristics of Taiyuan University of Technology by promoting the carbon peak and carbon neutral polytechnic action. With the support of Polar Research Institute of China, higher authorities and other parties, the university has formed a research and development team engaged in polar monitoring equipment, and scientific researchers from mechanical, electrical and surveying disciplines have also actively joined in the development and research of major polar monitoring equipment. He stressed that in order to promote the vigorous development of China's polar cause, large depth and wide range of polar expeditions are the way to go, which poses a serious challenge to the energy supply of polar expeditions, and breaking through the problem of stability and reliability of clean energy supply in extreme environments has become a pressing problem to be solved. "When polar regions and energy meet, a melding of ice and fire is created." Currently, the Polar Engineering Technology Innovation Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, led by the China Polar Center and with the participation of our university, has been approved to be included in the construction list, and the "Polar Clean Energy Laboratory" of our university is part of the Polar Engineering Innovation Center. Sun Hongbin hoped that the two sides would join hands to work together on "Smart Energy, Smart Polar", make the polar energy bigger and stronger, and contribute to the national polar cause together. He hoped that the two sides will cooperate deeply in mutual recruitment of talents, joint training of postgraduates and declaration of large projects and scientific research platforms, so as to make contributions to the construction of the polar power and the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Human polar activities are bound to use energy, and more efficient and clean energy technologies are needed to guarantee the implementation of the national polar strategy deployed by the central government. The Polar Engineering Technology Innovation Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, led by the Polar Center and with the participation of Taiyuan University of Technology, was approved to be included in the construction list, and the research team of Taiyuan University of Technology, headed by Sun Hongbin, provided support in the field of polar energy application technology. Sun Hongbin had personally led a team to visit the Polar Center, and the two sides signed a cooperation agreement on cooperation in the field of Antarctic energy and reached a consensus to jointly build polar zero-carbon energy. The university also made another effort around the implementation of the central polar strategy, organizing a postgraduate polar class, forming a polar energy application technology laboratory and incorporating it into the polar engineering technology innovation center of the Ministry of Natural Resources. He expressed that he was honored to be able to participate in the construction of the Polar Clean Energy Laboratory of his alma mater and hoped to add bricks to the development of his alma mater and contribute to the development and construction of national polar zero carbon energy.
